Madelynn's First Week

Maddy arrived on February 25, 2009 at 7:15 in the morning. She weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 191/2 inches long. She was the best birthday present that her mommy could have asked for. As most of you know our homecoming was delayed by a brief stay in Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Madelynn was monitored for apnea and treated for a possible infection. I think that the worst part of her stay for both of us was, her being stuck with needles for blood work and IV medications. The doctors and nurses there are wonderful, and after spending a week in the NICU we developed a new perspective. Yes, it isn't the way that we wanted to start out our life as a family, but we were fortunate to be leaving there after just four days with a healthy baby. Many of the other families were not so lucky, their stays are much longer and their poor tiny babies are struggling to survive and grow strong. We will definitely not be taking for granted our beautiful, healthy baby girl. Kevin and I were able to bring Madelynn home Monday evening. She had a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and got a great report from our pediatrician. Here are some pictures of her first week.
