The scenery in the mountains is one of the reasons we return. It is beautiful, tranquil, and at times breathtaking. I will say that I personally prefer the mountains in the fall. The foliage then is gorgeous with all of the warm reds, yellows, and oranges. This time we had lush greenery which was also pretty, just not as varied and interesting as the fall in my opinion.
However, this was the view from our cabin balcony with the hot tub. It is hard to complain about seeing the mountain top peeking out from behind the clouds.

Much to my displeasure, as I am not fond of heights, we drove to The Top of Old Smokey.
It is really named Clingman's Dome and is the highest peek in Tennessee and is partially in North Carolina where it is the third highest peek. It was so high up that the water vapor from the clouds was freezing to the trees. Pretty but chilly, and very high up.

If you like the outdoors this is a beautiful place for hiking, fishing, or just driving and taking in the scenery. It brings a certain amount of peace to be surrounded by the landscape of the mountains. It forces you to unplug, to slow down and to appreciate the beauty of the land and the people surrounding you.
