Memorial Day weekend was a five day weekend for us! Kevin had off work Thursday-Monday, and amazingly we had NOTHING to do. Five whole days with no obligations, no appointments, nothing what so ever to do. It was great and we were able to fill this weekend with time with family and friends. We grilled with my parents and sister on Friday evening. On Saturday, Kevin and I had a date night and got to meet one of our friends' new baby boy. Skip Sunday for now, and forward to Monday.
We invited friends over for a bbq on Monday and two families were able to attend, the Gaskills and the Kortes. We had pools in the backyard for the kids to play in and they had a pretty good time splashing and running around.
Here are Maddy and Carter.
Em trying to feed Carter a ball. Poor Carter.
Em splashing in her little pool.
The get together was fun time, and best of all the guys watched the kids playing outside while us ladies chatted inside with the baby!
Rewind to Sunday, Kevin and I took the kids to southern Illinois.
We went to Giant City State Park first. There we had lunch at the lodge. It ended up being family style all you can eat fried chicken with lots of yummy sides. It worked out great because the food came out really quick for the girls and it tasted great. After our lunch we walked one of the shorter trails that was paved. Then we headed back towards Carbondale to the Castle Park, that a friend had told me about.
It is a neat park right in the middle of a neighborhood. From what I gathered, a family had built the park in memory of their son. When you first walk into the park to the side is a large dragon that is mean for climbing on. Daddy and Em posed for a picture and then found a spot in the shade for a bottle.
Maddy wasn't so sure about the big guy!
Here is the castle. It has lots of tunnels and climbing and passages.
Really neat and there were a lot of kids there all having a great time.
It also had a little fountain, which Maddy just had to splash in.
We had a great weekend!
