Early Father's Day

This past weekend, we celebrated Father's Day with my dad early. We did this because next weekend is the great Alhambra Homecoming, and he is the chief cook in the stand for the Alhambra Fire Department and Jaycees. I managed to post the pictures in reverse order, so bear with my backwards narration of the event. This was the delicious cake my sister made for dessert on Sunday night. It was a chocolate layered cake with a peanut butter moose and chocolate genache filling between the layers. She iced it with homemade chocolate icing and decorated it with Reece's Peanut Butter cups. It was tasty, and definitely not on any one's diet.

We had dinner on Sunday at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Maddy and Grandpa relaxed on the patio while the lasagna and bread finished baking in the house. We also blew bubbles for Madelynn and the dogs. I'm not sure what was funnier, watching Maddy look at them or watching Lucy trying to catch and eat them.

So, no one knew what to get my dad for Father's Day, and when we ask him, he always says, "I don't know something nice." Not a very helpful response really. Dave and Kevin came up with the idea of rerocking the driveway for him. So that is what we did. Here are the son-in-laws busy spreading rock. Dave by the way, is thrilled that his picture made the blog. If you ask Kevin and Dave, they may tell you that Lindsey and I didn't do our fair share, but. . .

Here is the picture that proves otherwise. Do you see me with a rake in my hand and my sister walking back to get another shovel full of rock. What great worker bees we were! What was Maddy's contribution to the present?

To look cute of course and isn't she doing a good job of that with Grandma in the house? Maddy also gave Grandpa a new mouse pad for his office, complete with a picture of his favorite girl.
